For 36 years, the first weekend of each June, more than 275,000 people gather at Civic Center Park, in the heart of Downtown Denver to celebrate community, the pulse of Denver and the arrival of summer at the Capitol Hill People’s Fair. Voted Denver’s Best Annual Festival in 2005 and 2006, the People’s Fair is the quintessential “urban festival,” bringing together people of every culture and background, from city neighborhoods, suburbs and outlying communities, to enjoy the diverse sights, sounds and tastes of Denver.
Produced by Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods, (CHUN), the city’s largest neighborhood association, the Capitol Hill People’s Fair is also the region’s premier arts and crafts festival featuring more than 300 artisans, crafters and other specialty merchandisers as well as the city’s leading local music showcase. Festival attendees gather at five different stages to be entertained by some of the region’s top emerging musical acts selected through Denver’s most recognized talent search, or munch on the offerings from dozens of food vendors. Plus there are many other activities for children & young families including the “Little People’s Fair” children & families area featuring age-appropriate programming, entertainment and activities.
The CHUN Capitol Hill People’s Fair is a favorite Denver tradition, emphasizing urban diversity and neighborhood pride. It is truly a Fair for the people, made possible in large part by the hard work and collaborative efforts of more than 400 volunteers. Further, this past year, $30,000 was provided to non-profit and civic organizations doing important work in the community. Over the years, the CHUN Grants Program has distributed nearly $700,000 to address challenges such as homelessness, public safety, provide support for middle school music programs, fund dental health for children, preserve historic buildings and countless other important programs in the Greater Capitol Hill.
